Anybody sharing my dream?

It is 2009 and I am reading the stats for the past season,after changes made by MLB, that brought back the "specs" for the baseball used in the '60s, Bats were not allowed under 34 ounces, the pitching hill was back to 15 inches and protection gear for elbows ( gives advantage to the hitters because allow them to come closer to the plate) was not allowed. Wow! Nobody hit over 40 homers, there were six 20 game winners and the both leagues call for a special meeting to cut some MLB clubs because of lack of talent. There was a limmit in the size on the gloves that outfielders could use.( not like the Hai-alai baskets used now )There was a new rule on performance enhancement substances: First time- a full season suspencion, next time - banned from baseball forever.

I'd like to see some of that happen, but not all. I'm totally with you on the new PES rules, I think there really needs to be sticter rules and I'd also love to see them institute blood testing. I'd like to see a change in the mound size, part of me has a sneeking suspicion that going back to 15" might lessen the number of injuries pitchers sustain and maybe we'll see an end to "pitch counts" which I can't stand. I'm kind of indifferent to the glove size, so I won't argue if that's changed.

I'm only partly with you on the idea of contraction, I think it may be a necessary step someday, but as of now, I'd prefer to see certain teams placed under new management and moved to new markets. I'd love to see the Marlins move to Puerto Rico, it wouldn't add much travel time and I think having an MLB team in the Caribbean would be great since many MLB players come from there. Minnesota or KC could also be moved, maybe to Mexico or Vegas. I think it'd truly be good for the game.

However, I'm against forcing players to use bigger bats. The only thing that would really do is create less broken bats. And yes, I know, lighter bats means faster bat speeds which creates power, but if you knew anything about physics, heavy bats can do the same thing...just ask Babe Ruth. I also really think that players should be allowed protective gear for the elbows. It isn't a matter of whether or not it allows players to stand closer to the plate, it's a safety thing. Obviously, you've never been hit by a 100 mph fastball...pitches that fast can break bone if they catch you in the wrong place and as a fan, I don't want my favorite player on the DL all season because he was hit in the elbow by a pitch and got a broken arm. Seriously, whats next...should we dump the helmets too, cause they let batters stand closer to the plate too.

Oh, and you are dreaming if you think we'll see an end to 40+ HR seasons, even with the suggestions you made. Ruth, Mantle, Mays, Marris, Aaron...all played with the old "specs" all had 40+ HR seasons.
