What wood bat can I use in high school baseball?
Next year I will be entering high school. I intend on trying out and making the baseball team. My mom said she would buy me a new bat then, I want wood. What size and weight regulations are there for wood bats in high school baseball? (note: I don't care about metal bats.)
The NFHS says maximum 36 inches in length, and maximum barrel diameter of 2 3/4" inches for WOOD bats. 2 5/8" for non-wood. They do not necessarily have to have any kind of certification mark. You could, in theory, carve out your own bat out of a tree, and as long as it falls within the dimensions, it's legal.
Please note the difference between wood and "wood composite" bats - composites are considered NON-wood bats and must fit the rules for NON-wood bats.
As for looking like a weirdo with a wood bat, doesn't look weird to me, but then again, I'm from New York City - wood is the only thing allowed here. I love the wood-bat game, but I'm old-school like that.
